There’s been a lot of anticipation and speculation and now, finally, the opening date for the much awaited Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the first theme park of its sort dedicated to a car manufacturer, has been announced.
The doors will be thrown open on 28 October 2010, three weeks before the final Formula 1 GP of the season at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, within which the theme park is located.
The announcement was made on Thursday as the F1 fraternity gathered to kick off proceedings for the Spanish GP in Barcelona. On hand were current Ferrari F1 team drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa who helped reveal one of the theme park rides – Formula Rossa.
All the details so far revealed about the Ferrari Theme Park
Touted as an ‘intense multi-sensory experience and a must visit for enthusiasts, fans and families,’ Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will host numerous attractions under it’s massive red roof that is said to be inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body.
It spans 200,000 metres-squared and carries the largest prancing horse logo every created. The enclosed space within it is around 86,000 metres-squared.
The theme park includes 20 state-of-the-art attractions including the world’s fastest rollercoaster which will reach staggering speeds of up to 240kph and rise over 52m high – the ride is dubbed ‘Formula Rossa’.
Alongside Formula Rossa visitors will also be offered a g-force experience on a ride that goes 62m up, an aerial voyage through Italy following a Ferrari, what’s described as an interactive 4D fantasy adventure for all the family, racing simulators like those used by the Ferrari racing team, a race and driving school, and a flume ride journey through the heart of a Ferrari 599 engine.
And of course, there will be restaurants, cafes with authentic Italian cuisine promised, live food shows, a traditional delicatessen and of course lots of opportunities to buy Ferrari merchandise, memorabilia and souvenirs.
Tell me more about Formula Rossa
Accelerating to 240kph those on this ride will feel a g-force of 1.7 in carriages style to resemble Formula 1 cars.
The ride starts inside the where riders will be given protective eyewear. Using a hydraulic winch system, similar to those used to launch jet fighters, the roller coaster is then shot out of the launch area using 20,800bhp hitting 100kph in just 2secs rising to 52m in less than 5secs.
It then twists, turns up to 70 degrees and drops along a 2.07km track. Each train will have four cars with four riders per car.
Does Ferrari own this park?
Actually no, it’s owned by Aldar Properties PJSC, the Abu Dhabi property developer which has also created the Yas Marina Grand Prix circuit.
Meanwhile it will be run by Farah Leisure Parks Management a joint venture between Aldar and ProFun Management Group Inc.
Ferrari is closely involved in all aspects of the park however to ensure it encapsulates the ethos of the famous brand.
