Celebrating British Cool from 1940s-1980s

Barely having finished with the Goodwood Festival of Speed the iconic UK car and horse-racing venue is preparing itself for yet another event revolving around cars.

13-15 August will see the first ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ a new festival aimed at celebrating five decades of British cool from the 1940s through to the 1980s. It brings together and celebrates music, fashion, film, art, dance and design from the most culturally influential era of the 20th Century.

As well as top fashions, dance, design, DJs, art, a Vintage High Street and great live music with dozens of top bands and artists performing – including The Faces, Sandie Shaw, Earth Wind and Fire, Heaven 17 and Joy Division – Vintage at Goodwood will have period vehicles galore.

Classic cars and bikes, hot rods, scooters, commercial vehicles, camper vans and caravans will be on display, with popular and desirable vehicles representing each decade, from the 1940s through to the 1980s.

From the 1940s expect to see popular family cars from Ford, Austin and Morris, as well as more exotic Rolls-Royce and Jaguar models of the era. From the 1950s, the ‘British is Best’ MGA and Vauxhall Velox will rub wing mirrors with taxis and GPO vans.

Many of Britain’s most iconic cars of the 1960s will be on hand, including the Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DB5 and pioneering Mini, with motoring legends of the 1970s including the Ford Capri, Triumph 2500 and Jaguar XJ6, amongst others. The 1980s will include an Austin Metro, Ford Sierra XR4i and Lotus Esprit Turbo.

And this isn’t the last event of the year either. The Goodwood Revival, which follows a month later, from 17-19 September, is billed as the world’s most authentic historic motor race meeting set entirely in the romantic time capsule of the 1950s and 60s.
