After a teaser campaign lasting longer than we could be bothered with, Ford has finally unveiled the 2010 Ford Mustang.

The covers were pulled off the latest generation of the iconic muscle car at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new car is an evolution of the existing model – headlines include a new exterior and higher quality interior, as well as performance improvements from increased horsepower and tuned suspension.

The 2010 ‘Stang will come with either a 210bhp 4.0-litre V6 or a 4.6-litre V8 with 315bhp, available – in the US at least – with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.

The exterior design is still clearly a Mustang, but with more, well, curves. And the classic hunched shoulder line of yore makes a welcome return.

Purists may be slightly scared by the new Mustang emblem on the revised front grille – the first since the car was introduced back in 1964. The new headlights are inspired by the 1970 Mustang and the bonnet sports a new power bulge to allow for increase cooling of the engine.

Some models will feature a rear-view camera built into the spoiler and the LED tail lights are also brand new. They feature three sequential lights for indicating, harking back to the Mustangs of the 1960s.

The wheels and tyres are all increased by an inch, meaning a range of 17 to 19-inches, which Ford say improve both handling and braking. Electronic stability control is standard and works in tandem with the ABS and traction control systems.

Inside, the instrument panel has been redesigned and is surrounded by chrome trim, and the interior lighting can be adjusted to any one of 125 colours. Jazzy.

Sound deadening has been increased for a quieter ride, but engineers promise that the classic Mustang sound will remain.

More news on when the new ‘Stang will appear in the GCC as soon as we get it. In the meantime, check out our used buying guide on the old Mustang here.

What do you think of the new Mustang? Is it a new stallion for 2010, or just a lame donkey? Have your say below.
