Last weekend saw the first running of the ExoClass Club’s exotic and classic car cruise, which the organisers hope will soon become a regular event on the roads of the UAE.
Kicking off at 11.30am at the Arabian Ranches Polo Club, after a briefing from Club President, the ever amiable Eric Hafner, the Dubai drive saw a varied collection of cars set off on a route that included the Emirates road, Trade Centre Roundabout, Jumeirah Beach Road, JBR walk and Emirate’s Towers.
CAR Middle East joined the cruise for the majority of the run on a bright cheery day which had fortunately cleared following the sand storm conditions of the day before on Thursday. The cars were interesting, the atmosphere was splendid and the car mad enthusiasts were, well, a bit mad really.
Some of the cars were already familiar to the magazine and readers of CAR Middle East, as they have been in the magazine, including John Herman’s sensational black 1980 LP400S Countach, originally a show car and featured in our April 2007 issue.
Another CAR ME friend was Bob Jarmson who owns the concourse-winning 1967 Ford Mustang GT. It’s a full Marti Report documented GT optioned car with the rare S-code 390 big block and four-speed with positraction. It’s up for sale incidentally, so if you’re interested drop us a line.
Boasting a fully documented photo folder of its five-year frame off restoration and its original bill of sale, was a beautiful black 1969 Corvette Stingray imported by the Rolling Art Emporium’s Gaurav Dhar and valued at US$70,000. This was complemented by Pravin Bhagwat’s original 1974 stock 350Ci V8 T-Top in bright orange. You will have seen this in our May 2008 issue.
Another orange car was Cameron Webb’s 2002 Honda NSX which still looks factory-fresh. His previous NSX was featured in our February 2008 edition. The evocative South-African built Backdraft Cobra was a crowd pleaser, but that deserves a whole separate feature in itself and one we hope to bring your very soon.
Graham Henderson had brought along his ‘Love Bug’ a 2001 Mexican-made Volkswagen Beetle which came with air conditioning and modifications that included carbon fibre wing mirrors! He was joined by Mubarak’s more authentic and older Beetle in red and beige with Porsche 356 wheels – okay so not that authentic.

17 August 2009 Ban on old cars doesnt make sense.. Collecting classics hence is not something exclusive to the rich only. Im a middle classic citizen and would love to get myself a porsche 930 someday.. To make it more controversial i would love to keep the Honda S2000 as a collectors item in the future it deserves it..
